Through the IFSS membership, the SSC-NL is affiliated with the World Sports Association, which includes all recognized sports under international sports laws.

This is the GAISF, the General Association of International Sport Federation. The GAISF is again directly under the IOC, International Olympic Committee. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) was founded on June 23, 1894 and heads the Olympic Movement. The organization is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. The chairman of the IOC is the German Thomas Bach, who was chosen in 2013 as the successor of the Belgian Jacques Rogge.

The IOC promotes both top sport and sport for everyone, in accordance with the Olympic Charter. An important task is to ensure that Olympic Games or Winter Olympic Games are organized every two years. The IOC owns all rights of the organization, marketing and television images of the Olympic Games. Most of the income of the IOC comes from Olympic television rights and from the TOP sponsorship program.

The IOC has approximately 110 members and 30 honorary members from all over the world. These are individuals who operate as representatives of the IOC in their own country. It is therefore not the case that they represent their own country within the IOC. Members are elected for eight years and can subsequently be re-elected for new eight-year terms. At the end of the year in which they turn 70, members have to withdraw. IOC members elected before 1999 can continue until the age of 80 years. The IOC members meet once a year during a multi-day IOC session. Each member has voting rights and can submit topics.

So if the sled dog sport ever becomes an Olympic sport, the SSC-NL is the ONLY Dutch association that can apply for Olympic status.
